Morning Prayer, Monday, May 20, 2024 - WORD(S) OF THE DAY:  BOUNDARIES

Father God, today, my goal is to walk in obedience to the boundaries You have put in place for me.  Amen

“The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road.  The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy.  The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes.  God’s reputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee.  The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree!”   (Psalm 19:7-9)

“Boundaries are not just a good idea; they are a God idea.  You see, God designed boundaries to improve our lives and not hurt our lives.” Life is full of boundaries.  Some we like and others we are not so fond of.  Take for instance the speed limit.  Most of us would love it if there was no speed limit to slow us down.  That way when you are late for work or an appointment you can speed down the freeway without wondering if the police is up ahead.  Next, there are school zones.  We know they help to keep our kids safe, but some hate to see that blinking light telling you to slow down to 20 MPH.  This is especially so if you have hit that snooze button one too many times and you are running late.  How many of us have sped through the yellow light because we couldn’t wait?  There are so many boundaries we have to deal with.   God even told Job that He put boundaries on the sea, say, “You can go this far and no farther.”  What if the sea ignored that?  Sometimes during hurricane season that has been the case and people's house got damaged and, in some cases, lives were lost.  Boundaries are important.  In your own life, you have set some boundaries.  People can't just come to your house and do whatever they please or stay as long as they want.  Once they arrive, if you see them out of place, you let them know the rules of your house and expect them to follow them.  Just as with the sea, God has boundaries for us in the Bible.  His commandments for instance.  They really are there to protect us.  We like doing our own thing which does not always have a successful end.  We can set boundaries in our lives for others and change them at our leisure but none of us can alter the boundaries and laws that God has put in place.  They are there for a reason, to lead and guide us in the right way.
